Naklo, 16 February (STA) - Slovenia's hardware retailer Merkur Trgovina, which was sold the US fund HPS Investment Partners more than a year ago, posted a net profit of 9.7 million euro in 2018, up nearly 26% from 2017. Its sales revenue rose to 231 million euro, up by over 12% from 2015.
The Naklo-based company's net profit rose more than three-fold from 2015, the company said in a release on Friday.
"We have been posting good business results for the fifth consecutive year, revenue has been rising, we are successful at profitability and reducing debt," director general Blaž Pesjak said.
Employing 1,500 workers in Slovenia, Merkur Trgovina operates 23 own stores and there are another 15 frachised stores around the country.
Given the upbeat results, the company will enter pay talks with trade unions next week. Trade unionist Mateja Tavčar expects a deal in a few months' time.
