Due to a growing number of confirmed new coronavirus cases in Slovenia in the past few days, the government will hold a session on Sunday evening to discuss a bill that would implement emergency measures dealing with the potential second wave of infections.
Unofficial sources say that measures will be primarily aimed at preventing large gatherings. Therefore, the government is likely to amend the ban on holding public meetings. Events and meetings are currently limited to 500 people due to the risk of infection.
Milan Krek, head of the National Institute of Public Health, said tightening the ban would be one of the key measures that "reduce the risk of new infections turning into an epidemic wave."
The daily rate of confirmed cases of infection decreased to almost zero in mid-May, but the number of cases has increased since mid-June. On June 22, more than ten cases of the disease were confirmed in one day for the first time since April 29.
