Ljubljana, 06 June (STA) - The #ifeelsLOVEnia hashtag will be featured prominently as part of the latest campaign to promote Slovenia as a green, active and healthy five-star destination. The campaign, launched on Wednesday, invites locals, tour operators and visitors alike to share pictures or videos of their favourite spots around the country.
The hashtag is the key part of the Two Million Reasons Why We Feel Slovenia campaign aiming to share Slovenia's image of a boutique five-star destination around the world, Maja Pak, the head of the Slovenian tourism authority STO, told the launch ceremony.
The STO is certain that inviting local tour operators and locals, as well as tourists from abroad to share their favourite spots and moments will go viral and "put it even more firmly on the map", according to Pak.
There is an ulterior motive to the campaign - by exposing unknown gems, which are often even more attractive that those attracting hosts of tourists, the STO wants to reduce the pressure on the best known destinations in peak season.
As part of the campaign, the STO will pick the three best posts and award them every week, with the best of the best to be picked after the conclusion of the campaign in September. The overall winner will get a five-day holiday package for a holiday in Slovenia.
According to Economy Minister Zdravko Počivalšek, Slovenia creates almost 13% of the GDP in tourism. Last year, five million tourist arrivals and 12 million nights spent in Slovenia were recorded.
