Ljubljana, 31 January (STA) - Slovenian retailers generated 8.2% more revenue in 2017 than the year before. The growth thus almost doubled compared to that recorded in 2016, the Statistics Office said on Wednesday.
The growth was fuelled by sales at fuel retailers' shops, but other retail sectors also saw their revenue rise, by 4.1% year-on-year.
Sales of food products were up by 2.3% and those of non-food items by 5.7%.
In real terms, revenue from retail sale and repair of motor vehicles increased by 15.6% compared to 2016. The growth was 6.4 percentage points lower than in 2016.
In December 2017, retailers sold 2.3% less goods than in November, but 1.7% more than in December 2016. The monthly drop in sales was caused mainly by 5.6% lower sales in fuel retailers' shops, the statisticians said.
Compared to December 2016, sales of food products were up by 5.3% and those of non-food items by 5.2%.
