The Old Vine Festival in Maribor takes place fr om 28 September to 12 November. The fusion of wine and food, culture and entertainment guaranteed!
Maribor boasts the oldest vine in the world, which is a national pride of Slovenia. The festival is a great opportunity to showcase amazingly rich wine tradition and represent impressive stories of the local wine producers. As usually, also this year, the festival started with the ceremonial grape harvest of the Old Vine in the beginning of October and will last until the celebration of St. Martin’s Day on 11 November.
The venue of the festival is the Old Vine House in Lent, often nicknamed as a temple of Slovenian wine-growing tradition and culture. A number of wine and culinary evenings take place there and represent the perfect opportunity to taste the best what the region has to offer. Not only in terms of wine, but also in terms of food: local chefs have presented their versions of Old Vine tastings – little bites that can be tasted only at the time of the Old Vine Festival. Additionally, a number of local producers brings their products to the festival stalls, where visitors can taste and purchase them.
Old Vine Festival is a perfect opportunity for you to explore the city and the surrounding area as well. Apart from rich cultural background (Maribor held a title of the European Capital of Culture in 2012), the countryside will amaze you with rolling wine-growing hills dotted with farmhouses, wh ere Slovenian hospitality got the name. Make the most out of your visit and stay in Maribor and surrounding area for a whole weekend!
