Ljubljana, 31 January (STA) - More than 4.7 million tourists visited Slovenia in 2017, which was 13% more than in 2016, making for yet another record year in tourism. The number of nights rose by 11% to 12 million, show data released by the national Statistics Office on Wednesday.
Data show that the growth is generated in large part by foreign tourists. Their number exceeded 3.4 million last year, up 17% from 2016.
Foreign tourists also generated more than 67% or 8.1 million nights. The figure was 15% higher than the year before.
Nearly 540,000 tourists were from Italy, over 371,000 from Germany and more than 342,000 from Austria. More than 169,000 came from Croatia, over 118,000 from the UK and nearly 109,000 from Serbia. The number of tourists from all the mentioned countries increased last year.
The number of nights generated by 1.3 million Slovenian tourists grew by 4% year-on-year to 3.9 million. The number of Slovenian tourists was 6% higher than the previous year.
