Maribor, 06 August (STA) - Slovenia's second city will soon end up without the sole scheduled air link after the Belgian carrier VLM Airlines decided to scrap flights to Munich due to insufficient demand.
According to information on the airline's website, the final available flight from Maribor to Munich is on 17 August and the final flight back on 20 August.
The service was launched seven months ago with five weekly flights to Munich and on to Antwerp, but only two months later the number of flights was cut to two a week.
VLM Airlines, which no longer has ownership links to the owner of airport operator SHS Aviation, confirmed the route is being discontinued due to lack of passengers.
The airline would not disclose how many passengers it had carried between Maribor and Munich, but said the flights between Munich and Antwerp would continue.
VLM Airlines spokesman Yves Panneels said that options for potential new flights from Maribor or Ljubljana were being considered, but no concrete decisions had been taken.
