Ljubljana, 05 September (STA) - The total of people registered as unemployed with Slovenia's Employment Service has dropped again, to 75,920 at the end of August, 0.2% fewer than a month before and 9.4% fewer year-on-year.
The number of those who were checked in anew dropped as did the number of those who were checked out of the registry because they found a job.
The number of newly registered fell by more than 26% from the end of July, dropping by 5.3% year-on-year to 4,760. More than half of these (2,662) saw their fixed-term contracts expire.
Of the 4,891 who were removed from the registry, 3,233 got a job or became self-employed. This latter figure is 10.6% lower than in July and 8.9% lower than in August 2017.
Geographically, the biggest year-on-year drop in the number of jobless was recorded in the areas of Murska Sobota (-12.7%) and Ptuj (-12.5%) in the north-east and Nova Gorica (-12.1%) in the west.
