Ljubljana, 04 July (STA) - The number of those registered as unemployed contracted by 2.2% to 74,988 in June compared to May and by 11.6% compared to June 2017, the Employment Service said on Wednesday. The average number of the unemployed in the first six months dropped by 14% year-on-year to 80,845.
Some 4,700 people registered as newly unemployed in June, which is 7.4% fewer than in May and 6.5% fewer than in June 2017.
On the other hand, more than 6,400 deregistered, 5,640 of whom got a job, which is down 12% compared to May and 14.8% compared to last June.
Unemployment dropped across the country at monthly rates ranging from one percent in Trbovlje area to 4.2% in Koper in the west.
At the annual level, Trbovlje saw the biggest drop in the jobless total (17.7%), followed by Murska Sobota (14.7%) and Ptuj (14.4%) in the east.
The average number of the unemployed in the first six months dropped by 14% year-on-year to 80,845. More than 36,610 persons registered as newly unemployed, which is 9% fewer than in the first half of 2017.
In year-on-year comparison, the number of first job seekers and redundant workers was down by 13.5% and 28.6%, respectively, while the number of those whose fixed-term contract expired decreased by 5.5%.
A total of 46,686 people deregistered, 36,404 of who got a job, which is 10.7% fewer than in the same period in 2017.
