Ljubljana, 09 January (STA) - Exports by Slovenian companies were up by 9.1% in November 2018 year-on-year to EUR 2.79bn, while imports were up by 8.2% to EUR 2.8bn, the Statistics Office reported on Wednesday. While exports increased more than imports, a trade deficit was nevertheless recorded last November, amounting to EUR 6m.
The trade deficit was primarily a consequence of increased imports from the EU countries, with the exports-to-imports ratio in November 2018 standing at 99.8%.
Both exports and imports were up last November compared to the average monthly amount of exports and imports in 2017, by 18.7% and 21.8%, respectively.
Exports to the EU countries represented 76% of total exports from Slovenia, while imports from these countries represented 77.1% of total imports.
Slovenia's exports to the EU countries were up by 6.8% in November 2018 year-on-year, amounting to EUR 2.12bn, while imports from the EU were up by 3% to EUR 2.16bn.
Slovenia's exports to non-EU countries were up by 17.1% to EUR 671.3m, while imports from these countries were up by 30.8% to EUR 640.7m.
In the first eleven months of 2018, Slovenian companies exported EUR 28.59bn, up 9.7% year-on-year, while imports were up by 11.4% to EUR 28.24bn.
In the January-November 2018 period, a trade surplus of EUR 354.1m was recorded for an exports-to-imports ratio of 101.3%.
