Ljubljana, 30 April (STA) - Slovenia's inflation ran at the annual rate of 1.5% in April, up 0.3 percentage points from the month before, mainly due to higher food, fuel and energy prices, the Statistics Office has reported.
Prices of goods rose by 1.5% and service prices were up by 1.6% in a year. Non-durable goods were costlier by 3%, while the prices of durable and semi-durable goods dropped, by 2% and 1%, respectively.
A 3.8% hike in food prices had the biggest upward impact on the annual inflation rate, at 0.6 percentage points; fruit prices rose by 10.01% and prices of meat by 8.4%.
A further half a percentage point came each from higher prices of fuels and energy; heating energy prices went up by 13.6%, prices of liquid fuels rose by 10.5%, and fuels and lubricants were marked up by 4.8%.
On the other hand, the annual inflation was pushed down by lower prices of footwear (-6.5%) and cars (-4.2%), contributing 0.2 percentage points each to push inflation lower.
The monthly inflation rate in April was at 0.7%, mainly due to higher prices of clothing and footwear (+5.3%), and costlier package holidays (+11.2%).
Measured with the harmonised index of consumer prices, an EU gauge, the annual inflation rate ran at 1.9% and the monthly rate stood at 0.4%.
